A BUSINESS RESULT I'M PROUD OF
A British regulatory authority was looking to create a strategic workforce plan to support the organisation’s five-year business plan and overall strategy. I worked with our consulting team to plan the project, conduct a current state analysis and confirm strategic priorities by rolling out interviews with senior leaders, creating a skills framework, conducting a survey of current skills in the organisation and analysing its results to identify the gap between demand and supply of general and specialised capabilities. We then modelled the variations which might affect workforce demand and supply (e.g. change in retirement age). The resulting workforce plan helped the organisation to save money by identifying workforce reductions and acquisitions to make, and ensuring that the remaining workforce will be best able to achieve its strategic goals.
A BUSINESS REINVENTION I ADMIRE
Burberry, which started as a maker of outdoor attire and World War I military trench coats, has reinvented itself and the fashion industry. It has evolved into a global luxury fashion leader. Its recent transformation from an underperforming company, associated with counterfeit check and ill-advised licensing, to an industry leader is remarkable. I admire how Angela Ahrendts overhauled the company’s historical corporate structure to ensure that business decisions were made with a big picture view, with a centralised focus on the trench coat as the essence of the brand - this bold and pivotal move ignited transformation throughout the company. Now Burberry leads in its digital strategy too; integrating digital into their bricks-and-mortar stores, building a strong social media presence and live streaming their fashion shows to the public.
